Feeling stressed is normal and can even be a good thing on occasion. Most of us experience it at different times throughout our day-to-day lives. However, too much stress can lead to serious health problems, which can affect your oral health as well. When your body is under stress, it produces the hormone cortisol, leading to inflammation throughout the body. Inflammation in the mouth has been linked to gum disease, cavities, and other oral health problems.

What Does Stress Do to Your Mouth?

When you are stressed, your body releases stress hormones into your body to help regulate the stress response. This response can be positive and help you stay focused and alert when faced with difficult circumstances. However, this can also have a negative effect on your physical health.

Foods rich in calcium and phosphorus promote strong teeth and bones. Fruits and vegetables are also high in water content, which helps to rinse away food debris and bacteria from the mouth. Additionally, avoiding foods high in sugar can help reduce plaque buildup that can lead to gum disease. This will help ensure a healthy body weight and immune system. These things will all work together to promote good overall health, both mentally and physically – including excellent oral health!
